Moving from the City to the Suburbs

In recent months, there has been an increase in temporary and permanent relocations from New York City to the surrounding suburbs - including Westchester County, NY, Fairfield County, CT, and Bergen County, NJ. Some NYC residents are even moving outside of the nearby suburbs to areas like South Florida.

Specifically here in CT, we are experiencing an influx of former NYC residents.

In fact, according to a recent New York Times article:

“Between March 15 and April 28, moves from New York to Connecticut increased 74 percent over the period a year ago.”

The President of the New Canaan Board of Realtors, Melissa Rwambuya, notes:

“We are seeing a huge wave of buyers from NYC looking to make the move to our beautiful town for its incredible schools, walkable downtown, and strong sense of community.”

Considering moving to the suburbs? Here are some tips that may help with your decision:

  • Connect with a Realtor in the desired area

  • Explore downtown areas and community spaces

  • Schedule a local school tour

  • Consider first renting in your desired area, to allow time to search for the right home for purchase

Once you've decided to make the big move, RRBuilders is here to help. Here are some things we can do to help make your transition to the suburbs, and settling in to a new home, run as smoothly as possible:

  • We will make ourselves available to become your resource through this transition by helping evaluate feasibility for an existing home to renovate and/or a new home to build.

  • We will help you build your team and provide you with resources to help choose your architect and designer and/or work with those you have engaged.

  • We can conduct walk-throughs of the home/property you wish to purchase.

  • Once your purchase is finalized, we can take on the home and property management and facilitate any ongoing maintenance.
